SARAH SWENSON

Hello Sarah Swenson – check you all rudey nudey in your picture. What’s this cover all about. It’s got bubbles and chimney pots and pretty girls in?
Just to clarify I’m not actually naked – it just mostly looks that way, it’s the only way I can photograph any kind of nudity cause I’m too shy to see anyone else naked. Plus, I rock. The cover though, that was a good day. I met up with Marie Berry to photograph her as a strong, inspirational woman for her work on her magazine KnockBack, and in life in general. This is my favorite one from the day, the whole scene just comes together with the bright sky tied in with the bright flags and the playfulness of the bubbles (can you tell I’m working on a degree, my life is full of explanations).

I can tell by the way you talk your talk you’re not from London. Where are you from?
Yeah, I try and hide it by surrounding myself with people with fun accents but people always pick me out. I’m from the good old (or young as you people think) US of A.

What are you doing over here then huh? huh? HUH?
Very nosy aren’t you? Just for that I’m not telling you anything….....or I will because everyone wants to know about me. I’m getting a masters degree at the University of Westminster. My choice was here where I could waste time and money running around Europe or back in the States – it was an easy decision.

Where’s your favourite part of this city?
My favorite part of the city is currently South Kensington where I just moved to, the small flat is definitely worth the location. I just love all the little shops, the fact that I can run in Hyde Park, well, try and run and try and not collapse in a heap before the end of my lap, and all the museums just down the street, you know, for culture and stuff.

Following the cover we did of the other week, what do you want to be when you grow up?
As of right now a surfer. My friend and I spent a week learning how to surf in Newquay. I think I’ve found my true calling. There is nothing better than spending a day sitting in the ocean watching the water before crashing to the bottom of the ocean while trying to make it back to the beach. If I can’t do that I’d at least like to photograph them.

Where can we see more of your work?
My work is widespread, at least in my mind it is. For others to see it’s here and soon to be seen at the Dying To Know Exhibition.
