INTERVIEW – THIS WEEK’S COVER DESIGNER
Sandra Kleine Staarman
Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Sandra Kleine Staarman, comic artist and non-conformist. I’m the woman behind the webcomic littlestarman, which recently won a “clickie” webcomic award.
What is the idea behind the cover?
It has always been my dream to cycle through Amsterdam on a bakfiets full of girls and loads of picnic equipment. Cross-breed that with a witch who might like to fly something else than a broomstick while moving furniture.
What does the city of Amsterdam mean to you?
Home. Even though lately I’ve been spending a lot of time elsewhere, living out of my backpack.
So you’re in charge of the city for one day: what would you do or
change immediately? FREE PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION FOR EVERYONE!!! And I would close down the Noord-Zuidlijn and spend the rest of the money on social projects in problem neighbourhoods or on student housing.
If Amsterdam was a colour, what colour would it be and why?
It would be all the colours of the rainbow flag.
What sound represents Amsterdam to you?
The sound of my upstairs neighbour moving furniture at three o’clock in the morning. A sound I greatly enjoy and which makes me feel at home. No, really, it does!
